RSPCA Animal Welfare Lesson Pack

Compassionate Class takes an interactive, discussion-based approach to develop emotional literacy and consider the welfare needs of animals. These PSHE Association accredited resources are designed to provide an exciting learning experience as well as supporting schools in the delivery of spiritual, moral, social and cultural education (SMSC) for 7 - 11 year olds.

Compassionate Class is a flexible project that can be delivered across four to five hours of your lesson time. Choose from sessions focusing on pets, wild animals or farm animals, culminating in an imaginative piece of work from your pupils which can be entered into a nationwide competition to become the RSPCA’s Most Compassionate Class 2020!

As part of the programme, children will become advocates for animal welfare and think critically about topics including:

Robot Companion – Design a robot companion for your pet

Adopt A Human – What sort of owner would a pet want to live with?

When I Rule The World – Design your own rules for animal welfare

Mini Me – Imagine and design a world where humans are the size of insects

A Wetter World – How could humans and animals exist underwater?

Britain’s Best Farmer – Find the best farmer in the country

Mindful Shopping – Find out about products that animals provide for us

Philosophical Humans – Question what informs our views on animal welfare

You can download the Scene Setter Activity as well the most popular resource, Robot Dog, here on Plazoom. For further resources and information please visit the RSPCA Compassionate Class webpage.
