These worksheets, covering the spelling patterns ‘ei’, ‘ey’ and ‘eigh’ , are an excellent way for children in Years 3 and 4 to revise and practise these spelling patterns.

The worksheets include five different activities in which children look at spelling patterns, identify misspelt words and apply their spellings in context. They can be used within lessons, as an assessment or as a homework task.

This primary resource is divided into five sections:

  • Tips
Includes advice on when words use ‘ei’ and ‘ey’, and space for children to write their own examples
  • Check
Circle the words that are spelt correctly, and add ‘ei’, ‘ey’ or ‘eigh’ to complete the words with parts missing
  • Use
Use the images and words provided, add ‘-ei’ or ‘-ey’ to the words, then use the resulting words in a sentence about each picture
  • Change
Read each sentence and change the word or phrase in italics for a synonym which includes the letters ‘ei’, ‘ey’ or ‘eigh’
  • Apply
Write a short passage about the image provided, and try to include as many of the words given as you can
