These PDF worksheets, covering compound words, are an excellent way for children in Y1 to revise and practise spelling these words.

The worksheets include different activities in which children look at spelling patterns, identify misspelt words and apply their spellings in context. They can be used within lessons, as an assessment or as a homework task.

This primary resource is divided into three sections:

  • Tips
Put the compound words together from the root words provided
  • Check
Tick which compound words are correct, then draw a picture for each compound word
  • Use
Use the word in each box to write a sentence about the picture

What is a compound word?
