This spelling Bingo game is a fun way to support children in Year 6 to practise and master key spelling patterns.

The game can be played as a class or in small groups.

What is included in this Year 5 and 6 spelling words resource pack?

  • Bingo caller tick list
  • A photocopiable with words on that include spelling patterns for Years 3, 4 and 5. The caller can call out any of these words and then tick it off the list once it has been used
  • Teacher notes
  • This includes guidance on how the resource can be used in the classroom.

National Curriculum English programme of study links

Pupils should be taught to:

Use further prefixes and suffixes and understand the guidance for adding them

Spell some words with ‘silent’ letters [for example, knight, psalm, solemn]

Continue to distinguish between homophones and other words which are often confused

Use knowledge of morphology and etymology in spelling and understand that the spelling of some words needs to be learnt specifically, as listed in English Appendix 1

Use dictionaries to check the spelling and meaning of words

  • 30 bingo cards each containing 16 words containing spelling patterns from Key Stage 2
  • 1 tick list to mark off the spelling patterns called out
