This resource pack provides opportunities for Year 2 pupils to develop comprehension and writing skills in preparation for SATs and end of year assessments.

What is formal writing?

Formal writing is often used in academic and business work, and is characterised by a serious tone.

What is informal writing?

Informal writing is similar to a spoken conversation, and is characterised by a more personal tone, and often includes things like contractions, slang and figures of speech.
