Develop pupils’ inference skills using inspiring and thought provoking images. This pack includes three Christmas and winter themed images to prompt discussions about characters and their actions.

Using inference when reading, watching films or looking at images is an important skill when developing pupils’ comprehension.

Using this resource, pupils can answer simple questions that involve inferring feelings and actions of the characters in images. Using images removes the need to decode, meaning that pupils with varying phonics skills can all discuss and answer questions about the same image to develop inference skills.

This resource pack includes:

Three Christmas themed images with accompanying questions to develop inference:
Image 1 – Father Christmas in a Chimney
Image 2 – Carol Singers
Image 3 – Winter Fun
PPT - teaching slides with the images and questions.
Blank question cards
Teacher notes - with guidance on how the images can be used in the classroom
