Words that are spelt or sound the same can cause great confusion!

Explore homophones and homonyms with pupils in Key Stage 2 by creating jokes and puns based on these words. Pupils will read a variety of jokes and puns that exploit the different meaning of words before writing their own using their knowledge of homophones and homonyms. A list of homophones and homonyms is also included as a word mat to support ideas and teach the difference between the two.

This could be a fun resource to use on or around April Fools Day on the 1st April, or at any time as an amusing way to explore these words as part of a spelling or vocabulary lesson.
