As countries around the world start to relax the rules around lockdown, what is the situation in the UK – and how do our young people feel about the decisions that are being made?

This resources pack includes an article from The Week Junior newspaper, plus ideas for activities based on the story.

This PDF resource includes this article, as well as accompanying activity ideas:

  • We’ve all been looking forward to the time when life can return to normal. The Government is already thinking about letting some – but not all – children return to school. Is it right to do this for only some year-groups at a time? Or is it unfair to have some children at school and others at home? Would you rather wait until it is completely safe and have everyone return at the same time? What do you think?
  • Knowing what you know now, write a pretend letter to yourself before this lockdown started. Suggest how you could learn to appreciate things that maybe you were taking for granted before and offer suggestions about how you could prepare for staying home and being unable to go to school
  • Write an acrostic poem using the letters of the word LOCKDOWN to start each line. Use your best words and descriptive techniques to express what you are looking forward to doing again once the restrictions are lifted.
  • What is a virus? Find out as much as you can about viruses: what they are, how they affect us, how we get them, how we pass them on and how we can treat them. Write

up your research as if it were part of a chapter on diseases in a book about the human body.
