These bright, appealing SPaG worksheets are a great help for practising and revising the use of statements in Year 2. There are three worksheets in total, covering the following five sections – ‘understand’, ‘challenge’, ‘test’, ‘explain’ and ‘apply’.

  • Understand

Students respond to three questions by writing a short statement for each one.

  • Challenge

‘Write 3 statements about your school.’

  • Test

Students pick out the statements from a list of several sentences and underline the statements contained within three short passages.

  • Explain

‘Using your own words, explain what a statement is.’

  • Apply

‘What do you like to do for fun? Tell a friend all about your favourite hobby. Underline all of the statements you have included.’

What is a statement?

A clearly expressed fact, observation or preference in speech or writing.

  • I like spaghetti.
  • I am going outside.
