At the end of Key Stage 2, pupils in Year 6 complete the English grammar, punctuation and spelling test (GPS). Could your pupils benefit from additional SATs revision support? These grammar test papers are perfect revision materials, and an easy way to check that children’s SPaG skills are where they need to be before they take their SATs tests in May.
This resource includes a collection of 10 practice SPaG papers, in one handy pack, to use with pupils in Year 6 to prepare them for paper 1 of the English grammar, punctuation and spelling test at the end of Key Stage 2.
Each test has 12 questions which follow the same style and format as the official SATs papers. Each SPaG test includes questions which cover a range of content domains and cognitive demands from the Key Stage 2 English grammar, punctuation and spelling test framework 2016.
All content domains are covered across the collection of 10 SPaG tests at least twice, with the number in each area (grammar, punctuation or vocabulary) weighted according to the KS2 English grammar, punctuation and spelling test framework (2016). A table showing the content domains covered in each test is included.
What is included in this KS2 grammar resource?
- 10 x Year 6 grammar test papers
- 10 x Year 6 answer sheets for grammar test papers
- Content domain coverage for each test
- Teaching notes
How can these teaching resources be used?
The resource can be used to practise KS2 SATs test style questions in preparation for the Year 6 National Curriculum tests in May. They could be completed in whole class or group extra revision sessions, as independent practice, or set as homework tasks.
Each individual set of practice papers includes 12 questions, which should be completed in approximately ten minutes if carried out in test conditions. This will provide the opportunity to answer questions speedily in preparation for Paper 1 of the English grammar, punctuation and spelling test, which includes 50 questions to be completed in 45 minutes. If a longer test is required as part of extra revision, several of Plazoom’s SpaG tests could be combined.
They also offer an opportunity to talk to children about grammar in the run up to the formal tests, tracking progress and identifying where there may be misconceptions or gaps that can be closed by revision activity or additional teaching.
Do you have any other KS2 SATs revision tools available?
