Pride Month takes place every June. It’s a time to celebrate the lives, identities and contributions of LGBTQ+ people.

The month has its roots in the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Today, Pride is marked by community events, parades, educational activities and opportunities to reflect on how we can build a more inclusive world.

Why teach Pride Month?

Bringing Pride Month into the classroom is a powerful way to celebrate diversity. It helps pupils understand the importance of inclusion, respect and belonging.

It also offers a rich context for exploring themes such as identity, equality and different types of families. At the same time, you're supporting pupils to develop empathy and confidence in expressing their own ideas.

From reading about inspiring individuals like Nicola Adams to taking part in discussions and reflective writing, Pride-themed activities can support key literacy objectives in an engaging and purposeful way.

Here, we’ve brought together a selection of ready-to-use Pride Month resources. They're designed to help pupils read, respond and share their voices with confidence.
