This synonym card PDF resources pack, with teacher’s notes, can be used to help children make more ambitious vocabulary choices in their own writing.

Each set is available in two sizes, and blank versions are also provided, so pupils can add their own examples.

An ‘intensity ladder’ sheet encourages children to order the words according to intensity, with, for example, the loudest or largest at the top of the scale.

What is included in this synonym resource pack?

  • Synonym cards
The individual synonyms can be cut out and shuffled. Small versions are provided for pupil use, with larger ones for display. Blank cards are provided so that children can grow a group.
  • Intensity Ladder
Also included in the pack are intensity ladders, so that children can group the synonyms according to intensity, with the loudest, largest or most intense version of that synonym at the top of the scale. For the synonym groups of ‘walk’ and ‘said’, children could also investigate placing these into smaller sub-groups.

What is a synonym?
