These bright, appealing grammar worksheets are a great help for practising and revising the use of adverbs in Year 2 or as part of revisiting word classes in KS2. There are three worksheets in total, covering the following five sections – ‘understand’, ‘challenge’, ‘test’, ‘explain’ and ‘apply’.

  • Understand

    Students write three sentences that each use a specific verb and adverb pair.

  • Challenge

    Students list two sets of four adverbs that can be used in the context of two different image prompts.

  • Test

    Students identify the adverbs within two set of sentences, before completing five partial sentences with adverbs of their choosing.

  • Explain

    ‘Using your own words, explain why we use adverbs in our writing.’

  • Apply

    ‘Tiddles the cat has decided to explore the house and garden. Write a short story to describe her adventure.’ Include at least 3 adverbs to show that you can use them.’

What is an an adverb?

A word that gives more detail about a verb, adjective, phrase or even another adverb.
