This pack contains a variety of Year 1 spellings. Give children the included word cards and ask them to discuss the common spelling patterns. They can then sort the cards into groups.
The accompanying ‘teacher notes’ document includes several suggested activities that will help pupils revise and improve their understanding of key spellings in an engaging, hands-on way.
This download contains the following materials:
- A 38-page ‘Spelling document’. This consists of a number of cut-out ‘vocabulary’ word cards, plus a series of ‘spelling pattern’ word cards
- A teacher review sheet to help with checking the children’s work.
- A teacher notes document detailing four suggested activities, plus a set of 1-, 2-, and 3-column tables that children can use to organise their vocabulary and spelling pattern word cards
Suggested Year 1 spelling activities
- Provide the children with copies of one group of words and challenge them to identify the spelling pattern.
- Provide children with 2 or more groups of words and challenge them to sort the words into different groups by identifying spelling patterns.
- We've included tables where children can stick their words once they've identified spelling patterns.
- Provide children with a card containing a spelling pattern. Challenge children to think of as many words as possible which use that spelling pattern. They can do this with or without looking through an assortment of spelling words.
