This word spinner resource pack helps children identify and practise Y3 spelling patterns through a fun craft activity.

It features 16 letter strings, and uses vocabulary that will enhance children’s comprehension and support more-effective writing.

Blank templates are included so children can make their own puzzles for classmates, or word spinners for revision.

Teacher notes are also included.

Possible uses

  • Provide the children with the parts to more than one word spinner and challenge them to find the tops which match the bottom
  • Provide the children with the top of a word spinner and a blank bottom. Children can then add their own words to this bottom
  • Provide the children with the bottom to a word spinner and a blank top. Challenge them to use identify the spelling pattern which could be used to complete each of the words
  • Provide children with a word spinner for them to assemble. The children can then be challenged to use words from the spinner in their writing over a set period of time
