This KS2 poetry resource gives you everything you need to teach list poems in LKS2, with a seasonal twist. Centred around two high-quality WAGOLLs (What A Good One Looks Like), this pack helps pupils understand the structure and language features of list poems while developing their grammar skills, particularly around expanded noun phrases.
The two model texts – Hygge and Night Time Exploring – are both set in winter and are full of sensory details and rich vocabulary.
Hygge explores the cosy comforts of home during cold weather, while Night Time Exploring lists everything needed for a night-time winter adventure.
Both poems use adjectives, modifying nouns and prepositional phrases to expand simple noun phrases. These examples help pupils see how writers add detail, build atmosphere and create rhythm in a list poem.
You can use this pack across a week of English lessons or as a shorter writing unit. Pupils will begin by reading and analysing the model texts, identifying key poetic features and language choices. They will then plan, draft and write their own list poems using the writing frame and planning sheet provided.
This process supports vocabulary development and sentence construction, as well as creative thinking and presentation.
