Do your pupils know which items can be recycled?

Develop pupils’ understanding of recycling in Year 1 and Year 2 using the activities provided in this pack. These could be used as part of Recycling Week in September to educate and encourage more people to recycle in the UK.

Pupils will sort a range of recyclable materials, identifying the material that each item is made from, supporting their learning in science. They will investigate why it is important to recycle before creating their own posters, to display in school or your local area, informing others of what can be recycled.

This Key Stage 1 resources pack includes:

  • Teaching slides (PowerPoint)
  • Recyclable materials sorting cards
  • Poster writing prompt
  • Teacher’s notes providing guidance on how to use the resource with additional activities also suggested
