Queen Elizabeth II was the monarch for 70 years, from 1952 to 2022. During this time, she witnessed, and was part of, many historical moments in Great Britain and the wider world.

Explore significant world events that occurred during her long reign using this timeline resource pack. Pupils can order the events, discussing the events and the changes that Queen Elizabeth II witnessed during her time as our monarch. Further research could be carried out for events that spark the pupils’ interest or those which might relate to a current topic. A research sheet is provided for pupils to note information that they find. The research could be used to create a non-chronological report on a particular event.

The timeline focuses on technological advances during this time and significant political and national events. The resource could be used within the classroom or as part of a display to celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
