Teach pupils in year 1 and year 2 about Rosa Parks this Black History Month, or at any time. She was an influential member of the civil rights movement in America in the 1950s and 1960s. Her refusal to give up her seat in a bus so that a white passenger could sit down, sparked a year long bus boycott in the town of Montgomery, Alabama.
This resource pack will teach pupils in KS1 about Rosa Parks’ life and how influential she was at the time, and continues to be today, in the fight for equal rights for everyone regardless of colour. Discuss how people feel when they experience hurtful behaviour, which covers aspects of the PSHE curriculum and learn about a significant individual from the past.
 The resources will:
  - teach pupils about an inspirational person from the past
 - give pupils the opportunity to practise listening, reading and comprehension skills
 - prompt discussion about why people are inspirational
 - help pupils consider how people feel after experiencing hurtful and unkind behaviour
 This pack includes:
 - Inspirational People: Rosa Parks text and comprehension questions
- PowerPoint teaching slides
- Discussion cards
- Writing task
