Developing pupils’ use of a thesaurus to explore synonyms can improve vocabulary choices when writing.

This resource pack explores words that could be used to describe settings. Pupils will use a thesaurus to collect synonyms of words given, creating a collection of words that could be used to describe settings when writing.

Activities include:
 Find synonyms for the words given using a thesaurus
Write sentences that include synonyms of given words
Apply new vocabulary in a short writing task
