This ‘Make a Match’ game is a fun way for pupils in year 1 to explore adding the suffixes -ed, -ing, -er and -est to words where no change is needed to the root word. Pupils can add suitable suffixes to the root words, learning which suffixes can be added to the words.

The game can be played as a class or in small groups and is perfect for adult led interventions to revisit key knowledge and skills.

This resource pack includes:

  • Suffix cards (you may wish to print several copies of this for each group)
  • 32 word cards
  • Answer sheet
