Exploring Rosh Hashanah in Early Years
This engaging, easy-to-use resource encourages learners to explore the sights, sounds and tastes of Rosh Hashanah, and reflect on how it compares to their own experiences of special occasions.
Children will explore Rosh Hashanah through a set of image cards that introduce key symbols of the festival, such as apples dipped in honey and the sound of the shofar. Then encourage them to talk about their own experiences of special occasions – what they ate, where they went, and how it felt. Encourage learners to draw their memories on the simple worksheet.
The activities are designed to support key Early Learning Goals, including communication, language development and understanding the world. You'll encourage children to listen, ask questions, talk about personal experiences and recognise similarities and differences between cultures.
Whether you’re focusing on RE, cultural diversity or communication skills, this resource offers a flexible and meaningful way to celebrate festivals in the early years classroom.
