Engage Key Stage 2 pupils in persuasive writing using this summer-themed writing pack. Pupils will read a WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like) model text – a leaflet about River Cruises.
They will then explore how authors use persuasive language, layout features and modal verbs. They will then plan and write their own leaflet to persuade people to visit another tourist attraction, either in your local area, one they have visited, or one they imagine. They can use the included image cards for inspiration.
The model text demonstrates how to grab a reader’s attention with an opening statement, use present tense for immediacy, pose rhetorical questions and include positive language.
Pupils will also identify layout features such as subheadings, diagrams, maps, boxes and underlining to make information clear and guide the reader.
The text highlights modal verbs like will, would, can, could, may, might, shall, should, must, ought to indicate possibility, likelihood or necessity. It shows how these can enhance meaning in persuasive writing.
