The words are presented on cards for display; and as mats (in alphabetical and non-alphabetical order) that can be used for table work to support pupils to use these year 2 spelling words.

This primary resource pack includes:

  • Assessment sheets
These PDFs come in two versions, alphabetical and non-alphabetical order, so you can tick off words as they are learnt
  • CEW word mats
These also come in alphabetical and non-alphabetical versions
  • Printable CEW word cards
These clear and colourful word cards fit four to a page for you to print, cut out and keep

What are common exception words?

Common exception words are words which don’t follow the common rules of spelling, or which use letter combinations to represent sounds in an uncommon way. These are also known as tricky words.
