The internet is an exciting place for children and young people, but it also comes with risks and challenges that can affect their safety and wellbeing.
Safer Internet Day is an annual opportunity for schools to explore these issues, helping pupils learn how to use technology responsibly, stay safe online and make positive choices in the digital world.
What is Safer Internet Day?
Launched in 2004, Safer Internet Day is coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre. Each year, thousands of organisations take part to encourage children and young people to use digital technology safely, responsibly, and positively.
The day highlights key online issues, including cyberbullying, social media, digital identity, and other challenges facing young people today.
When is Safer Internet Day?
In 2026, Safer Internet Day will be observed on Tuesday 10th February.
What’s the 2026 theme?
The theme is “Smart teach, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”, focusing on helping young people navigate AI safely and responsibly.
